It was an awesome feeling, and it kind of set the tempo for the game. How did it feel to score the game's only touchdown? We relied on our defense to win the game, simple as that. We went in a slump from the middle of the third to the rest of the game. Offensively we didn't score, but we were out there challenging, staying on the field and making some first downs. (Florida Atlantic) made some yards and Ole Miss didn't make (many) for what that's worth. This week compared to last week, Florida Atlantic made 21 first downs on us. We actually converted six, which is average for us, 6-for-16. We didn't give up anything after the one punt. We left some points out there in the first half, but I guess 16 points was enough (tonight). I don't know what it is, but our guys make a lot of mistakes. Coach Wolford is starting to understand some things I've been watching for four or five years now. Little Sherm didn't get much of an opportunity either. It's just one of those games he didn't get a lot of opportunities. Still, certainly I hope we can play offense a lot better than we did in the second half. We felt like our defense was playing well and it was 16-3 so we had a decent lead. No matter who was in there the fourth quarter, we couldn't find a running play. We tried to keep giving it to him, but there was nowhere to go. Kenny (Miles) was running very well early. On Kenny Miles and the rest of the backfield Nate Pepper was able to play in there, he and Melvin Ingram. We'll wait and see tomorrow for the final results. I think Travian may have sprained his knee. One thing our offense did do, we lost one fumble. To hold this team to 10 points is pretty good. We talked about Jevan being a good passer and an NFL quarterback, but when you get good pressure in his face it's hard to throw. He had pressure on the quarterback all night. It was good for all Gamecocks.Įric Norwood got the career sack record. The ones we've lost have been pretty close games. Thursday nights, I didn't know we played all that well, but we have won all our openers somehow. You can remember two years ago we were number six and managed to lose our last five. Ole Miss is a good team, but it's early in the year. This isn't the number one or two team from last year. Who knows how good everybody is (right now). The win over Kentucky two years ago was very similar. We're happy and we have a long way to go, but we're excited to get the victory. We did manage 16 points and 285 yards or so before the fourth quarter, and we were able to come away with the victory. Eric Norwood, Cliff Matthews, all those guys had a good effort. We gave him a game ball because he had a sensational tackle on the punt return. It was good for our team to get a big win at home, especially for our fans. The defense hung in there down the stretch, and we had a good victory. But anyway, we had a lot of bad things happen, but our guys hung in there and kept fighting. Tori Gurley had another touchdown called back. We struggled on offense, but we did manage 16 points. Our pass defense (held) their guy (Jevan Snead) to 8-of-22 for 109 yards. Obviously it was a defensive struggle, and our defense was sensational. It was a wonderful victory for our team, our university and all Gamecocks. Recap | Final Stats | Notes | Photo Gallery
